9th February saw 6K73 Sellafield - Crewe hauled by 4 class 37s. This photo shows them passing Preston.

Engineering work at Whitefield Bank on the Manchester Metrolink saw 37109, 37418 and 37901 from the East Lancashire Railway participating in hauling the works trains on and off site. These photos show the 37s at work on a dark and gloomy Sunday 7th February.

A visit to Ron Hull's scrapyard in Rotherham on 16/01/10. Seen were the class 37s that had recently arrived along with a formerly preserved 08.

37418 seen performing on the East Lancs on 10/01/01. The recent heavy snowfalls making for some nice (but cold!) photographic opportunities.

37601 pictured at Warrington on 08/01/10 hauling 86702 and some 325s on 1S96 Willesden - Shieldmuir. The 37 worked the train between Willesden and Carlisle.

November 21st/22nd saw Barmouth host a number of class 37 hauled ballast trains in connection with work being done on the track between Barmouth station and Llanaber. Whilst the class 37s were guaranteed, decent weather was not! The event featured 37401 and 37425 from DBS. DRS supplied 37259, 37510, 37602 and 37607. Unfortunately 37607 failed on the Saturday night and was left at Machynlleth and was not seen when we went on the Sunday.

Considering the dark, damp and cold weather there was a good turn out for the event - a sign of this line's popularity. Roll on 2010's events...

After 2 years away from mainline operation, 37425 made a return on 31st October when, partnered with 37401, it worked the Warrington - Holyhead and return. Ironically 37425's last working before being stored in 2007 was the Holyhead vans also on 31st October...

37401 seen at Helsby on 10/10/09 with 6F18 Holyhead - Warrington. With the news that Holyhead Anglesey Aluminium is to close, this could well be one of the final times a class 37 appears on this service.

DRS' 37218 was hired in on 15/09/09 to work 6W91 Crewe - Penychain on the Cambrian line. This was brought about due to there being no serviceable DBS class 37s available.

Saturday 22nd August, due to a shortage of steam locos, featured only the Austerity representing steam with 37109 and 37418 covering the other diagrams. This gallery shows photos from a number of different locations along the line.

37401 seen at a variety of locations on 01/08/09 working the Warrington - Holyhead Anglesey Aluminium service.

37401 and 37670, in its new DB Schenker livery, seen at Preston in glorious mid summer conditions on 27/07/09. They were running as 0Z25 from Millerhill to Warrington after having been on the Northern Belle to Oban.

A gallery of the open day at Carlisle Kingmoor held on 11/07/09. Visitors were treated to brilliant weather and a host of locos from DRS' own fleet and one or two from other operators. The event also saw 37423 named 'Spirit of the Lakes' and 47790 (as 47593) named 'Galloway Princess'. This was quite possibly the best DRS open day held at this location so far and it will be interesting to see what next year brings.

A photo of 37604 on Slaithwaite Viaduct hauling 4 coaches from Barrow Hill - Crewe. These are apparently to be used for driver training for forthcoming work DRS are undertaking.

37419 seen at Warrington on 30/06/09 en route to Crewe Electric Depot from Springs Branch for load bank testing. The 37 then moved to Toton for repainting. Unfortunately upon returning to traffic it suffered a major engine failure which saw it stored again.

A visit to Doncaster to see doomed 47145 followed by a visit to Barrow Hill. Included in this gallery is a behind the scenes look at the workshops of HNRC at Barrow Hill.

Photos taken on the Friday of the June Keighley and Worth Valley Railway event. The sunny weather of the week lasted until the Friday morning, but soon enough the typical British Summer weather returned!

Saturday 30th May 2009 saw the East Lancashire Railway class 37 running day. This featured 37109, 37901 and 37418. With 37418 recently restored and repainted and 37109 recently repainted into BR Blue, the pair looked immaculate and a credit to those involved with work on them.

A shot of 37670 and 37401 powering through Acton Bridge with 6F61 Runcorn-Warrington. I had planned on getting this train after work and hopefully getting a shot of it just after it had left Runcorn, but a departure of over an hour early scuppered that plan!

37401 worked a 6L92 ballast train from Crewe Basford Hall - Saltney Junction on the night of 21/04/09. The Tractor is seen at Chester at 0040 on 22/04/09 waiting to proceed toward the junction.

37510 and 37682 seen at Arnside with 6K73 Sellafield-Crewe on 20/04/09. 37510 caused problems in the London area the following morning with a seized axle.

37401 worked a series of ballast trains down the Cambrian the week after Easter. The final train is seen at Welshpool on the night of 16/04/09.

On 14/04/09 37607 worked light engine from Crewe-York. This was prior to it hauling a rake of container flats from Haverton Hill-Donnington Railfreight Terminal the next day. It is seen here opening up through Mossley.

During the Easter Weekend Pathfinder ran a 3 day trip from Salisbury-Fort William. A 67 brought the tour from Salisbury-Preston on Friday 10th where 37670 and 37406 took over for the run to Fort William. Unfortunately 37406 failed at Grayrigg with supposedly quite severe engine problems and a 66 subsequently hauled the tour to Fort William with 37670 dead on the back. 37670 then teamed up with 37401, which was already up there for ballast workings, and went to Mallaig on Saturday 11th followed by Oban on Sunday 12th. The tour then returned south on Monday 13th with a 66 on the front. Also seen during the weekend was 37676 on a charter from Dumbarton-Oban.

After a long time either awaiting repairs or being north of the border on snow clearing duties, 37401 appeared on railtour duties at the end of March working a Nottingham-Machen charter. These photos show it at Stenson Junction the day after the tour working the 5Z75 Grantham-Wembley ecs. The 37 worked as far as Bescot.

As per the week before, due DB having no class 37 that could work down the Cambrian, a DRS 37 was hired in to work the train. 37259 is seen in this gallery on its way down to the work site at Friog.

On 18th January DB Schenker hired in 37069 from DRS to haul a ballast down the Cambrian and over Barmouth Bridge, which class 66s are still not permitted over. Due to the fact that DB only has 1 class 37 at the moment, and that 37 is in Scotland on snowplow duty, it was necessary to hire one off DRS.

Some nocturnal views of some of the locos previously stored inside Crewe DMD. Their eviction outside is possibly so that several class 60s can be stored inside the shed.
